NEW YORK (Reuters Health) - Women getting fertility treatments can be reassured that in vitro fertilization (IVF) does not increase their risk of breast and gynecological cancers, according to a new study of Israeli women. Long, slow walks may beat shorter, higher intensity runs Forget about busting your buns on the treadmill. A small new study suggests that you’ll be healthier if you spend your time taking long, slow walks – and standing instead of sitting whenever possible. IVF treatments can involve ovulation-stimulating drugs or ovary puncturing to collect eggs - procedures that researchers have suspected may increase women's risk of cancer. Indeed, previous studies linked IVF early in life to heightened risks of breast cancer and borderline ovarian tumors (see Reuters stories of Jun 24, 2012 and Oct 27, 2011: http://reut. rs/Lj3Yt3 and http://reut.rs/tn4n5t). But other studies found little connection between fertility treatments and cancer.
