Simply as the name implies, Clostridium difficile is a hard pathogen to beat. It causes a nasty infection in your gut, and it's commonly resistant to many antibiotics. But C. difficile got even more troublesome about 10 years ago when a particularly virulent form of the bug turned up in medical facilities around the U. S and was not prone to among the most usual courses of antibiotics. Nowadays antibiotic-resistant C. difficile is a superbug that kills almost 14,000 Americans a year. British geneticists simply sequenced a lot of these C. difficile strains from all over the world. And, the genomic data chart exactly how the drug-resistant bacteria emerged in North America and then hopped to Europe, Australia and Asia. The findings were simply released in the diary Nature Genetics.
C. difficile infections usually occur in medical facilities when clients have been treated with big dosages of antibiotics.
