Men who take a multivitamin each day are no less likely to develop heart disease than men who don't, a new study shows. The research follows an October study that found men taking a multivitamin each day were slightly less likely to develop cancer. Meanwhile, two other new studies released at the same medical conference found fish oil didn't help for an irregular heartbeat condition called atrial fibrillation, even though it is thought to help certain people with heart disease or high levels of fats called triglycerides in their blood. The bottom line on dietary supplements? Vitamins have varied effects and whether one is right for you may depend on your personal health profile, diet and lifestyle, the studies suggest. Study: Multivitamins can lower cancer risk "Multivitamins are the most common supplement taken by at least one-third of all U.S. adults," study author Dr. Howard D.
