In new guidelines released Dec. 3, the medical society says most patients who visit a doctor with heartburn or symptoms of gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) should skip the procedure unless they are experiencing serious symptoms like bleeding. Heartburn? 9 reasons not to ignore symptoms "The procedure is not an appropriate first step for most patients with heartburn," Dr. David L. Bronson, president of the American College of Physicians, said in a written statement. GERD occurs when the stomach contents leak backwards into the esophagus, causing irritation, heartburn, nausea and a feeling that food is stuck in the chest. About 40 percent of American adults experience symptoms of reflux disease, many turning to over-the-counter and prescription medications. An upper endoscopy is a thin flexible tube with a tiny camera on the end that's used by doctors to visually examine the upper portion of the digestive system, the Mayo Clinic says.

Key:
- Aggregate Sentiment is meant to be an indicator of an individual's overall sentiment.
- The Mean is meant to be an indicator of an individual's average comment sentiment.
- The Standard Deviation, when there are enough quotes, will indicate an individual's consistency of sentiment (i.e. a Standard Deviation of 0 would mean they were very consistent in their sentiment and 1 would mean they were very inconsistent).
Note that quote stats are likely to be meaningless beyond the aggregate score due to the tiny sample size. However, they are always provided just in case you find something useful there.
