Ecstasy to treat PTSD: One woman's story

Excerpt:

Rachel Hope and her daughter at a park in West Los Angeles in 2011. Hope struggled with post-traumatic stress disorder for years before trying a controversial treatment: the drug Ecstasy. Editor's note: This is the second installment of a three-day series on the controversial use of the drug Ecstasy to treat post-traumatic stress disorder. On Saturday, we met Rachel Hope and those studying whether the drug, or MDMA, is safe in a clinical setting. Here, we continue Hope's story. (CNN) -- Post-traumatic stress disorder begins as a natural response to danger, according to psychiatrists. Rachel Hope says her life had been the stuff of nightmares. She reached out to South Carolina psychiatrist Dr. Michael Mithoefer in 2005 after suffering the effects of PTSD for years and trying various treatments, to no avail. "My mom was 19 when she had me, and she was very ill-equipped," Hope said.

Key:

  • Aggregate Sentiment is meant to be an indicator of an individual's overall sentiment.
  • The Mean is meant to be an indicator of an individual's average comment sentiment.
  • The Standard Deviation, when there are enough quotes, will indicate an individual's consistency of sentiment (i.e. a Standard Deviation of 0 would mean they were very consistent in their sentiment and 1 would mean they were very inconsistent).

Note that quote stats are likely to be meaningless beyond the aggregate score due to the tiny sample size. However, they are always provided just in case you find something useful there.
