LOS ANGELES-- Escaping to a warmer environment might not necessarily keep you from suffering a heart attack in the "winter months," analysts discovered. An analysis of seasonal deaths in seven regions in the U.S. with really different climates discovered that all-cause and cardiovascular deaths throughout December and January continued to be consistently high across all regions, according to Dr. Bryan Schwartz of the University of New Mexico in Albuquerque and Dr. Robert A. Kloner of Good Samaritan Hospital in Los Angeles. Death rates at all sites clustered closely together and nobody website was statistically different from any other website, Schwartz reported right here at the American Heart Association. "We know that heart-related deaths increase in the winter months. But our research suggests there might be something other than climate at work here," Schwartz stated.

Key:

  • Aggregate Sentiment is meant to be an indicator of an individual's overall sentiment.
  • The Mean is meant to be an indicator of an individual's average comment sentiment.
  • The Standard Deviation, when there are enough quotes, will indicate an individual's consistency of sentiment (i.e. a Standard Deviation of 0 would mean they were very consistent in their sentiment and 1 would mean they were very inconsistent).

Note that quote stats are likely to be meaningless beyond the aggregate score due to the tiny sample size. However, they are always provided just in case you find something useful there.

The Food and Drug Administration says it has approved the first seasonal flu vaccine made using animal cell technology, rather than the half-century egg method. The FDA approved Novartis' Flucelvax to prevent influenza in people 18 years and older. The new method has been promoted by U.S. health officials because it is faster than egg-based production and could speed up manufacturing in the event of a pandemic. In the older method, virus samples are injected into specialized chicken eggs and incubated. The egg fluids are later harvested, concentrated and purified into the vaccine. With cell technology, small amounts of virus are put in fermenting tanks with nutrients and cells derived from mammals. The virus is then inactivated, purified and put into vaccine vials.
