The most recent Gallup poll found that 46 percent of Americans believe Earth is less than 10,000 years old, and that humans were created in that time. Robertson Science does not have all the answers about precisely how life came to be on this planet, but we can definitively state the Earth is far older than 10,000 years, and is in fact 4. 5 billion years old. The issue recently became news because Marco Rubio said that he didn’t know how old the Earth was, and wasn’t sure if the scientists were right. Good grief. Sinclair Oil‘s logo is a dinosaur for goodness’ sake. It baffles me how someone can fill their tank with gasoline but have no concept of how old the Earth is, or the chemical processes that were necessary to make petroleum happen. Enter Pat Robertson, who appears to have become the voice of reason.

Yawns in grownups are transmittable, however babies don't catch them. Anemic babies yawn more in utero than healthy ones, according to a 1999 study detailed in the journal Ultrasound Obstetrics and Gynecology.

Diabetes is a huge problem in the United States today, and one that I don't believe is taken seriously enough.  According to statistics by the International Diabetes Federation, 552 million people – that’s one in 10 adults – will have diabetes by 2030. If correct, that would be a jump of more than 200 million people with type 2 diabetes over two decades. The World Health Organization estimates that there are about 346 million people who suffer from the disease today. The projected rise is more due to aging that the obesity epidemic, the diabetes federation said, but we’ve also seen a rise recently in children and young adults developing diabetes. Twenty years ago, type 2 diabetes was virtually unheard of in people so young. The thing is, type 2 diabetes is still entirely preventable with certain lifestyle changes.

Secondhand smoke at five major airports puts flyers at risk, CDC says | Redux

Secondhand smoke at five major airports puts flyers at risk, CDC says

Excerpt:

Thanksgiving travelers who pass through the five major U.S. airports that still allow indoor smoking in designated public rooms face a hidden health hazard, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said on Tuesday. A study by the federal health agency found that secondhand smoke levels directly outside public smoking areas were five times higher than the levels in smoke-free airports. Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International, Washington Dulles International, McCarran International in Las Vegas, Denver International and Salt Lake City International are the only five of the nation's 29 largest airports that still have indoor smoking areas accessible to the general public, the CDC said. The five account for 15 percent of all U.S. air travel, the agency said. "The findings in today's report further confirm that ventilated smoking rooms and designated smoking areas are not effective," said Dr. Tim McAfee, director of the CDC Office on Smoking and Health.
